NEW ROOS for 2024

Auskick to Junior Football Transition at the Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club

The Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club are acutely aware there is a jump for our boys and girls turning up to Auskick on a Sunday morning to then playing organised footy matches on a Sunday and attending footy training during the week.

The purpose of this page is to help our, “New Roos” and their parents with as much information as possible to assist with this transition.  So when you can, please read through the information below.
FAQ’s

Jump Start Program
The Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club have developed the “Jump Start” program which helps us match our Joeys in friendship groups to form teams.  In February we will run two sessions (at night) where players can come down to the club for an organised run around and kick of the footy.  By letting us know what schools they attend and who they know we can make the transition to Sunday footy and training as fun as possible!  We have a fundamental belief that doing so will prolong ALL our Joey’s football journeys, giving them the very best chance of attaining a footballing environment they can flourish in.  Dates for Jump Start will be announced later in the year.
We encourage our Officer Auskickers and those new to the area to come and join this program as we help both our joeys and parents make the transition to footy on a Sunday!

When does this Jump Start program start?
Dates will be announced later in the year and will be Thursday 15th and 22nd of February 2024 commencing 5:30pm.
What happens if my child doesn’t enjoy the Jump Start Program and wants to stay with Auskick?
We know that everyone develops differently so if your little superstar doesn’t enjoy the Jump Start program, they can re-register with Officer Auskick and hone their skills, build their confidence and come back in 2025!

Other FAQ’s for Auskick to OKJFC and New to Footy Players
Are there registration fees to be paid?
Yes, all junior footy clubs charge a registration fee that helps cover the costs of running the club and getting the players out on the field. Our registration fees are very competitive compared to other sports like soccer, basketball and dancing.  The fees for the 2024 season are $240 (at the time of writing).
What do I need to do about a playing uniform?
Players need the following items to play on a Sunday:
Playing guernsey: The club provides its players with guernseys that are handed out before the first game and must be returned at the completion of the season (failing to return them in the condition they were received in incurs a cost);
Shorts: Blue for home games and white for away and can be purchased from the club store called “The Roo Shop”
Socks: Royal blue socks (as sometimes worn by the North Melbourne FC) can be purchased from the Roo Shop or any good sports store
Footy boots: Can be purchased from any good sports store
Mouthguard: Entry level mouthguards can be purchased at a sports store or chemist.  Next level up is a personally fitted mouthguard. The club arranges for a mouthguard company to attend a training session in the pre-season and children can be fitted on site.  We also recommend another sponsor in Officer Dental Care click here who can also provide this service all year round.
Is there any other apparel of merchandise we need to purchase?
The club has its own off field merchandise for kids and parents.  They include polo shirts, hoodies, beanies, scarves and more.  You will find these items and more here at the online Roo Shop.
What is the Roo Shop?
The Roo Shop is our club merchandise shop.  It operates out of our training venue on selected training nights and runs online here where you can browse and purchase most items.  If you buy online at the Roo Shop and your sizing is out we will do an immediate exchange.
How can I help?
The everyday running of a football team (and club) is a community effort.  You don’t have to know anything about football to help your little superstar develop in one of the league leading junior football environments in the area.
Every team needs a team manager, timekeeper and goal umpire for every game.  No footy knowledge required – just a passion to see kids outside, being physically active with smiles on their faces.
If you do have football knowledge and would like to help develop our Rooboys and Roogirls – we are always looking to add to our coaching ranks.  Feel free to send us an expression of interest through any of the emails below and we can provide you with more information.
If you have any further questions you can pose them by email to the following club people who are here to help:
Club Registrar (Kate): registrar@okjfc.com.au
Football Operations: (Jayson) footballops@okjfc.com.au you can ring Jayson on 0438 099 944.
Club President: (Shayne) president@okjfc.com.au
We look forward to seeing you at the Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club in season 2023!
